AUCloud has been newly accredited as the first cloud service provider to have secured Phase 2 “Authority to Operate” under the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Cloud Assessment and Authorisation Framework (CAAF).
The CAAF requires detailed information on the ownership and overseas operational access across all data types (metadata, support and analytics data) and not simply customer data after being mandated in July 2020.
The extension of the CAAF to cloud services providers aligns with the Hosting Certification Framework announcements made in June around the certification of three initial data centre providers, and forms part of the federal government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening controls around the hosting of government systems and data.
According to Phil Dawson, AUCloud managing director, the CAAF is as diligent as any cloud risk assessment and accreditation process he has experienced in the world.
“It is already delivering on its objectives, which are not only to maintain best practice security standards and related controls but to accelerate uptake of cloud services across government,” Dawson said.
To enable AUCloud to deliver its IaaS service to Hitachi Vantara in support of government and corporate customers looking for a secure sovereign cloud platform, AUCloud has signed a master services agreement with Hitachi Vantara Australia Pty Limited in Australia.
Hitachi Vantara is a significant and growing provider of managed services and hardware to Australian governments and critical industries, Adrian Johnson, Hitachi Vantara vice-president and managing director Australia and New Zealand added.
“The relationship with AUCloud provides a strong offering to support our customers looking for a secure sovereign cloud platform whilst maintaining the security standards they expect from Hitachi Vantara,” Johnson said.
“The cultural fit between the Hitachi Vantara and AUCloud teams, combined with the quality of our engineering, security and market reach is a powerful driver for more rapidly growing our business.”
By working with Hitachi Vantara, AUCloud is aiming to enhance the deployment of Hitachi Vantara’s services in alignment with Australian government and critical industry standards to address sovereign data risks, Dawson added.
“We are delighted that Hitachi Vantara will be the first of what we envisage will be multiple, sophisticated global IT service management and technology providers engaging with AUCloud in this manner,” Dawson said.
