Boeing Hackathon challenge open for uni student cyber leaders

Recognising the growing importance of cyber security capabilities, Boeing Australia is hosting a Hackathon challenge for Queensland’s creative thinkers to unlock the potential of unmanned technologies.

This Hackathon challenge follows an announcement made by Boeing earlier in the year regarding the company's push to establish a rapid innovation program over the next three years that will see the company develop next-generation autonomous systems capability in Australia in a bid to increase the independent operation of air and sea vehicles.

Commencing the evening of Friday, 23 November, teams will be presented with a selection of challenges to tackle over the weekend.

The challenges will span a number of topics related to the safe application of autonomous systems including augmented/virtual reality, modelling and simulation, data analytics, information security and machine learning.

As part of Boeing's push to establish Australia's autonomous system and cyber capabilities, Boeing will work with small-to-medium sized Queensland businesses to develop transformative ‘brain-on-board’ technology.

Director of Boeing's Phantom Works International business in Australia Shane Arnott said that the program will supplement the work of the Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence Co-operative Research Centre in Queensland.

The challenge is open to competitors over the age of 18 with a comprehensive understanding of systems and software coding commensurate with a tertiary degree in computer science, software engineering or related discipline.

Participants must register as individuals with teams to be formed on day one of the Hackathon. Collaboration and delegation will be vital to tackling the complexity of the challenges set by Boeing engineers.

Entries will open 1pm AEST Monday, 29 October 2018 here. Due to venue capacity, entry is capped at the first 120 to register.
