American cyber security multinational Palo Alto Networks has announced it has secured a nine-figure, multi-year partnership with the US Department of Defense (DoD), which will equip it with internet operations management (IOM) capabilities.
Palo Alto’s Cortex range of IOM systems will be rolled out to DoD starting in Q1 of FY2023. The DoD has paid an initial US$67 million for the first three years.
Cortex Xpanse, which is the industry’s leading attack surface management (ASM) system, is a key part of the deal. The software allows users to assess supply chain security, mitigate, and cover attack risks and manage the unmanaged cloud.
Like the rest of the Cortex range, Xpanse uses advanced machine learning which can automatically assess and take on vulnerabilities, working to ensure bolstered national security.
“This multi-year partnership is one of the largest software deals in Palo Alto Networks’ history and reinforces that our investment in next-generation security products is meeting the evolving needs of our customers," said chairman and CEO of Palo Alto, Nikesh Arora.
“By providing centralised visibility and situational awareness over its entire global network, we will help the US Department of Defense fulfill its mission of ensuring our nation’s security.”
The deal was made through ThunderCat Technology, a partner and value-added reseller of Palo Alto that focuses on defence. It has provided the DoD with products before, including “navigation display hardware manufactured by Leidos”.
