Online streaming service Twitch was the victim of a widespread data breach this week, seeing swathes of source code and payout information leaked online.
Online streaming service Twitch was the victim of a large-scale cyber breach this week, which saw content creators’ payout information as well as the platform’s source code leaked in a massive data dump online.
Video Games Chronicle reported that the leak included 125 GB of data, including the entire source code for the Amazon-owned platform.
The data dump also saw the source code of the upcoming Amazon Game studios – designed to be a competitor to video game sales platform Stream – leaked online.
According to Video Games Chronicle, the leak was originally posted on the online image board 4Chan, with the poster posting that they aimed to “foster more disruption and competition in the online video streaming space”.
Interestingly, the data also revealed the streaming platform’s payout details to content creators.
Over the last two years, Twitch streamer CriticalRole reportedly earned $13.22 million from the streaming service, while user xQc is reported to have earned some $11.6 million.
The company confirmed on Twitter that it is aware of the breach.
