The company’s Secure Web Gateway Service aims to provide cloud-delivered security for those using web browsers as a portal for day-to-day responsibilities, a trend that has increased dramatically since the pandemic sparked a move to remote work.

Working from home gives security teams a much larger challenge when securing an organisation’s systems and data, with staff now accessing emails and sensitive work files via a browser on their own device.

“The work-from-anywhere model is here to stay. Even organisations encouraging employees to spend at least some time inside their respective facilities have accepted this new reality,” said Omdia senior principal cyber security analyst Fernando Montenegro.

“The related burden falling on security and risk professionals is immense, as they are faced with finding ways to mitigate risk without disrupting normal business operations.”

According to research by Google Cloud, 75 per cent of enterprise work is done via a browser, while Menlo Security found that over 90 per cent of organisations surveyed have suffered an attack from web or mobile.

“One inadvertent click can open the door for malicious actors to exploit an employee’s device and gain the access needed to move laterally across the corporate network,” said the executive vice-president of secure access products at Absolute Software, Joe Savarese.

Powered by Ericom, Absolute’s Secure Web Gateway Service delivers on its promise of web-based cloud security by inspecting user content in an isolated cloud container before delivery, as well as providing users with multiple antivirus scans, remote browser isolation, data loss prevention and content disarm and reconstruction.

In addition, Absolute’s SSE expansion offers an optimised end-user experience to boost staff productivity, advanced malware and zero-day threat protection and the ability for organisations to better meet compliance policies and regulations across their systems.

“Designed from the ground up with a focus on remote and mobile users, our comprehensive Secure Access capabilities allow IT teams to adopt a ZTNA security approach while actively improving the experience for both end users and IT,” added Savarese.

Absolutes Secure Web Gateway Service is available as an add-on to the Absolute Edge package for Absolute Secure Access customers as part of the spring 2023 release. For more information, visit the Absolute website.
