Event ticket giant Ticketek has confirmed that a high number of its customer accounts have been compromised ahead of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.

Ticketek said in a widely reported statement that it was responding to several claims from customers reporting that the tickets linked to their accounts and stored online had been recently sold on Ticketek’s official Marketplace.

According to Ticketek, the apparent hackers obtained the account details “from other sources”, making this very likely a credential stuffing attack using names and passwords found via other breaches.

Popular clothing retailer The Iconic had a number of its customer accounts recently fall victim to similar attacks. In that case, the hackers were able to use the compromised accounts to make purchases in excess of $1,000 in some cases.

The Iconic said at the time that it would reimburse impacted customers.

Ticketek said it is currently “working around the clock” to resolve customer issues. The company will be providing pop-up stands at Swift’s concerts to handle irate and confused customers who will be devastated to learn at the last minute that they’ve been scammed.

For now, Ticketek has not shared how many of its customers may be impacted but has directed anyone who has already found their tickets to be sold to treat it as any other crime.

“If customers believe that they’ve had stolen or misappropriated property, and the resale of their tickets was fraudulent, customers should immediately file a police report and contact Ticketek customer service so we can commence an investigation,” it said.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission warned consumers of a rise in Taylor Swift-related scams in January, and we bet they hate to be right.
