LinkedIn recovers from worldwide outage

As if falling like social media dominos, LinkedIn’s site went offline for thousands of users around the world just a day after Meta’s network outage prevented access to Facebook and Instagram.

Based on reports on DownDetector, the outage began at roughly 7:30am this morning (7 March 2024) and affected both the platform’s website and app, restricting access to messaging, job listings, posts, profiles, résumés, and more.

The outage peaked at almost 45,000 outage reports in the US alone, while in Australia, reports reached as near as makes no difference, 1,900.

LinkedIn was quick to confirm the outage, posting a notice on its LinkedIn Help X page.

However, within an hour later, the platform confirmed that its operations had returned to normal.

“Sorry about the interruption. We’re back up and running,” it wrote.

Neither LinkedIn nor its parent company Microsoft have commented on the cause of the outage, and there is no sign that the outage has any connections to Meta’s outage yesterday, which was claimed by a trio of threat actors – SkyNet, Godzilla and Anonymous Sudan.

No bad actors have claimed responsibility for the LinkedIn outage.
