Tesserent Academy said that all 100 female year 10 students at the school will take part in free cyber security sessions that will build foundational cyber security knowledge and prepare them for potential careers in the cyber security and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) industries.

“We’re keen to bring cyber security education through Tesserent Academy to more high school students and encourage young girls to get inspired about a career path in cyber security,” said Tesserent chief executive Kurt Hansen.

“The industry desperately needs more cyber security talent to meet demand now and into the future, and we are proud to champion and work to increase inclusiveness and foster a future pipeline of female talent.”

Commencing the first term in light of International Women’s Day, students will take part in five 45-minute sessions, all subsidised by Tesserent Academy. These sessions will include topics such as cyber security awareness training, understanding the cyber security landscape, laws, regulations and data privacy, and standards and controls.

“This will help the year 10 girls learn about how to [be] a cyber aware citizen and about how cyber criminals target people and the evolving tactics they are using,” added Hansen.

“It will also empower them with advanced skills to protect their privacy online and what they can do to minimise the risk of their personal accounts and data being compromised.”

Following this, 20 students will be invited to take part in two practical sessions, with the first teaching them defensive and offensive cyber security tactics through practical exercise. Additionally, students will explore the industry, be exposed to security operations, and understand the threat landscape and threat intelligence and other key areas such as network security, endpoint security, physical security, cloud computing and industry response.

In the second session, students will be invited to tour Tesserent’s Security Operations Centre and to engage in a careers session involving speakers from the firm’s expert team.

“At Toorak College, we are committed to providing our students with the best opportunities to thrive in an ever-evolving world,” said Toorak College principal Kristy Kendall.

“Our corporate partnership with Tesserent is a testament to this commitment, as it allows us to offer invaluable industry immersion and insights to our senior school students.

“We believe that early exposure to fields like cyber security and technology not only fosters curiosity and innovation but also empowers our students to explore diverse career pathways.

“Through this partnership, our students gain firsthand experience, mentorship, and access to cutting-edge resources, preparing them for success in the dynamic landscape of the digital age.

“We are excited about the possibilities this collaboration brings and the impact it will have on shaping the future leaders in cyber security and technology."
