The national icon that is the meat pie is seemingly now under threat after cyber criminals attacked the internal systems of a major South Australian bakery, Vili’s.
According to 7News, which published the initial report, the bakery was hit by a cyber attack on 15 February, with the hackers gaining unauthorised access to the company’s digital systems, including ordering and invoicing systems and email accounts.
While the exact impact of the breach is currently unknown, access to the internal systems could result in the private details of suppliers, staff, and customers being compromised. According to The Adviser, investigators are determining the impact of the incident.
While a statement is not readily available on Vili’s website, a company spokesperson shared details of the incident with The Adviser, saying that customers have been contacted.
“Vili’s Family Bakery experienced a cyber incident on February 15 within the company’s IT systems that impacted emails and our ordering and invoicing capabilities,” the spokesperson said.
“We are investigating the extent of the incident in conjunction with our IT provider and cyber security specialist.
“We have contacted our customers to inform them of the issue and are also updating our staff on the ongoing investigations and impact on our operations.
“We thank all of our wonderful customers for their understanding and support while we continue to investigate this incident.”
