Palo Alto spends big, acquiring 2 Israeli security firms

The US security multinational confirmed the acquisition of Dig Security last week and should announce a Talon Cyber Security acquisition shortly.

Palo Alto confirmed it was purchasing Israeli start-up Dig Security, and now, this week, it’s looking like the company will continue its spending spree to acquire corporate browser developer Talon Cyber Security.

Palo Alto will snap up the company for around $625 million if the early reports are correct, and a solid portion of that money will be going directly to Talon’s 130 employees. About $75 million will be spread among the company’s workforce, no doubt making for more than a few overnight millionaires.

Talon is the developer of a Chromium-based browser called TalonWork, an enterprise-grade browser that offers secure access to cloud-based applications. The browser can encrypt files before downloading and is designed to block attacks targeting its rendering engine.

The Dig Security acquisition was confirmed by Palo Alto on 31 October, with the company announcing a definitive agreement had been entered into by both companies. Dig also works in the cloud security space.

“As companies build AI-enabled applications, there will be a substantial increase in the amount of data transferred to the cloud,” said Lee Klarich, Palo Alto’s chief product officer, in a statement. “Dig’s highly innovative [Data Security Posture Management] technology helps safely enable this shift, and its dedicated team will complement and help advance Palo Alto Networks’ strengths across cloud security.”
