Silicon Valley giant Hewlett Packard Enterprise has revealed its upcoming acquisition of networking and artificial intelligence firm Juniper Networks.

The companies announced this week a definitive agreement wherein HPE will acquire Juniper for US$40 per share in an all-cash transaction with a total value of US$14 billion.

HPE expects the acquisition to double its networking business, adding to the portfolio of services HPE can offer its customers. The acquisition will also strengthen HPE’s customer offerings with industry-leading artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud networking capabilities.

Rami Rahim, Juniper chief executive, will head up HPE’s combined networking business, reporting directly to Antonio Neri, HPE president and CEO.

“HPE’s acquisition of Juniper represents an important inflexion point in the industry and will change the dynamics in the networking market and provide customers and partners with a new alternative that meets their toughest demands,” Neri said in a statement.

“This transaction will strengthen HPE’s position at the nexus of accelerating macro-AI trends, expand our total addressable market, and drive further innovation for customers as we help bridge the AI-native and cloud-native worlds, while also generating significant value for shareholders. I am excited to welcome Juniper’s talented employees to our team as we bring together two companies with complementary portfolios and proven track records of driving innovation within the industry.”
