The company announced the new venture on 1 November, saying that the expansion of its services is designed to help advance the “state of cyber security and defence”.

“Research services has been 18 months in the making. We’d observed the need in the market for a greater depth and contextual awareness in a number of our services,” Mercury director Edward Farrell said.

“Our team has taken time and care to build and develop a meaningful capability. It is our vision that the activities undertaken by research services will foster trust and confidence in technologies and domains that demand a heightened degree of assurance.”

Starting out as a group of Aussie pen-testers in 2015, Mercury has established itself as an industry leader in thought and continues to expand its offerings to adapt to the changing nature of cyber security and advancement of major threats.

The new research offering will be exhibited at IndoPac 2023, with a focus on six key principles.

  • Cyber security test and evaluation
  • Defining requirements and characterisation
  • Vulnerability research and exploit development
  • Adversarial simulation
  • Support to sustainment activities
  • Assessment and assurance of support systems
